Although many people were honored for their volunteer contributions on Tuesday, there is still a huge need for more volunteers in the Black Hills.
There are around 300 different volunteer opportunities in the Black Hills area, from being a cat cuddler to serving meals, sorting donations and even building houses.
Volunteers are critical to not only the community, but nonprofit organizations as well.
Lynn Taylor Rick says, "Nonprofits would never be able to afford to pay the kind of employees that are needed to get their mission accomplished. The value of a volunteer dollar is a little over $20 an hour, so that gives you an idea of how different it would be, so without volunteers, I think a lot of agencies just couldn't, literally could not do their work."
