Gov. Daugaard says public input on Spearfish Canyon is still important

One day after the proposed land exchange to turn Spearfish Canyon into a state park was tabled, Governor Dennis Daugaard says public input is still important.

The land exchange would have started the process of creating 1600 acres of state park within the canyon. Governor Daugaard says he still wants public input because the proposal, Senate Bill 114 could come up again next year. The bill was tabled due to the state's financial situation.

Governor Dennis Daugaard says, "We began a public process designed to solicit public input for the larger footprint if the land exchange occurred, but I think it makes sense to continue that public input for the footprint that exists already."

Governor Daugaard says balancing the budget remains his top priority.
