RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Security for the Pennington County Administration Building will continue to be funded, and now we know where the money is coming from.
On Tuesday the commission decided to fund the security from the county commission contingency fund.
Last month the commission unanimously voted to restore the $72,000 expense. It had been dropped from the budget in an effort to save money. However, Sheriff Kevin Thom says it's a matter of public safety.
"A lot of people come and go through the county administration building and sometimes people are irate and treat the staff poorly and other people from the public poorly," said Thom. "The staff that are in this building request that we keep the security here for that reason."
