Fun Run raises money for Black Hills Symphony Orchestra

The 30th annual Fun Run in Memorial Park is helping one local group continue to make some music.

On Sunday people ran or walked in a 5K fundraiser for the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra.

Proceeds from today's race also help the group host a 4th grade concert where students can watch the musicians play for free.

Black Hills Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Kirsten Hollenbeck says, "Music is kind of central to being a human. We listen to music when we mourn. We listen to music when we celebrate and it also is good for your brain. It makes you smarter and better at math. Music is very important to being part of the human family."

Our very own Black Hills FOX anchor Steve Long emceed the Fun Run on Sunday.

The Symphony will have a fundraising dinner and auction at the Hilton Garden Hotel on September 16th.

They will also have a performance on October 21st called "Something Wicked this Way Comes," a spooky Halloween-themed concert featuring local dancers from the Academy of Dance Arts and Flutter Productions.
