Motorcyclists put their bikes on the road as part of a celebration to honor the new watercraft given the name U-S-S South Dakota.
The flag lifted up and carried today will be featured as part of a ceremony to unveil a Commemorative 2018 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. Retired U.S. Navy Commander Wiley Cress says this is the first time in 70 years that a boat has taken the state's name.

Wiley Cress, member, USS South Dakota Commissioning Committee, says " I think the passion and the pride has always been there. We just have now an opportunity to kind of have a sense of what's going in for the state. I mean having a submarine named after the state is just awesome. So now we have an opportunity to carry the flag from Sturgis here at Rally point and then go to Pierre SD, then go to Pierre, SD Groton, SD and then on to Sioux Falls where we unveil the motorcycle."

Cress says that this event truly creates a marriage between the state, South Dakota and Harley Davidson. The riders expect to deliver the flag to J&L Harley Davidson in Sioux Falls on Sunday evening.
