Lawrence County States Attorney John Fitzgerald says he's getting into the race to be South Dakota's next attorney general.
In a release, Fitzgerald announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for attorney general at the party's state convention in June of next year.

Fitzgerald has been a state's attorney in South Dakota for 37 years, first elected in Butte County in 1980 and in Lawrence County in 1995.
He graduated from Black Hills State University and the University of South Dakota School of Law.
Current attorney general Marty Jackley has announced his intention to run for governor next year.
