RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - One local winery received a high honor at a very large wine competition for the product it produces.
Firehouse Wine Cellars sent five different wines to the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition at the end of last year, which is the largest competition of American wines in the world.
The three red and two white wines all placed when they were judged at the start of 2018, leading to a total of three silver and two bronze awards.
One staff member at the winery says the honor all goes back to the goals the winery has set for itself.
"It really helps us realize that we are reaching our goals, which are to bring traditional style wines to the Black Hills made from both west coast fruit and from locally grown fruit that was grown in the Black Hills,” wine club manager Kara Sweet said. “It's pretty important to us."
For this year's competition, nearly 7,000 entries came from 35 states around the country.
