The holidays can be hard on a person's wallet, spending big bucks on gifts and fancy feasts can catch up to you. Some don't even have the kind of cash to spend on those things for their family. That's a void Feeding South Dakota is looking to fill this year.
The organization held their 7th annual turkey giveaway at the Central States Fairgrounds on Saturday.
Hundreds of cars lined the fairgrounds to head home stuffed with all the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner.
500 turkeys were given out today, and plenty of other ingredients to dish up some holiday sides.
Staff with Feeding South Dakota say they hold an event like this to put a meal on the table for the people in need in our community.
George Rokusek, Western Operations Manager for Feeding South Dakota says, "In order to help people that maybe don't have the money to put a nice Thanksgiving meal together. People that are in need have to make financial decisions and a lot of those decisions are hard whether they spend that money on food or something else. We're able to help and I'm glad we can do that."
Rokusek says Feeding South Dakota couldn't put on this event without the help of the volunteers, other local organizations who donated supplies, and the Central States Fairgrounds.
