Deadwood police arrest Gillette man for assault

DEADWOOD, S.D. (KEVN) - A Gillette man was arrested early Sunday morning in Deadwood, charged with kidnapping and domestic violence aggravated assault.

Jamieson Douglas Scarff, 30 years old, was arrested at Hampton Inn on Main Street after a struggle with officers, according to a release from the Deadwood Police Department.

Scarff reportedly strangled a woman until she was unconscious, physically assaulted her and held an 11-month-old baby while preventing the woman from leaving the hotel room. Scarff allegedly told the victim that she wasn’t going anywhere and threatened to kill her and her family, police say.

Besides kidnapping and assault, Scarff is charged with several firearms violations. When police arrested him, they found a loaded .45 caliber hand gun in his jacket pocket.
