Deadwood events hope to help gaming industry

Deadwood, SD The Deadwood Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a slew of events every year and many make a positive impact on the local economy.

Organizers say that this year's Wild Bill Days will be the largest they have seen in years -- which may help the gaming industry.

As of April, the Deadwood Gaming Association reported the industry was down a little over 6 percent compared to last year.

Most of the gaming establishments are members of the chamber, and help promote the events by offering specials to increase foot traffic and reservations.

Amanda Kille, Deadwood Chamber of Commerce marketing director says, "It does see an increase and it kind of, the level of increase depends on the demographic of the particular event that is being held. But they all have a positive impact in all those economic factors in Deadwood"

During such events, Deadwood usually sees an impact on the city's sales tax, and other industries including hotels.
