The last day to file your taxes is just a day away and that means tax offices are staying busy.
The tax deadline was extended a few days this year due to the Patriots Day holiday today.
That has some Americans waiting until the last minute to get the job done.
For any last-minute filers, tax professionals say you can file an automatic 6-month extension.
But the extension only gives you more time to file, not more time to pay.
Nicole Ossenfort, Franchise Owner at Liberty Tax, says, "If you find that you are going to owe the IRS, my number one suggestion is to go ahead and file your tax return away. Some people seem to think if they're going to owe the IRS and they can't pay, they just don't file. Big mistake. As the failure to file penalty is about ten times greater than if you were just to file and set up payment options with the IRS."
Ossenfort suggests estimating how much you'll owe and pay it when you file your extension.
