Monumental Movie Night rolled out the red carpet Thursday evening at the Elk's Theatre to showcase movies that were made in or are about South Dakota.

The 1958 film North by Northwest by legendary film maker Alfred Hitchcock hit the big screen again tonight. Part of the film were shot at Mt. Rushmore, and Hitchcock even stayed at the Alex Johnson during that time.

This is the first of a series of movies that the Mount Rushmore Society hopes to put on in an effort to raise money to enhance the visitor experience at the four faces.

Gary Keller Development director Mt Rushmore Society says, " Its a great idea because there were some fine movies made here. And in future years we could have, Dances with Wolves, we could have Armageddon with Bruce Willis, we could have National Treasure 2 with Nicolas Cage. How The West Was Won. There is a series of things we could have here"
The event was sponsored by Black Hills Energy and the Alex Johnson Hotel, as well as KEVN.
