The Pennington County Commission held the first reading for drill test holes at the proposed Gold Mine near Rochford and the Croell Redi-Mix site south of Rapid City during a special commission meeting Tuesday night.
It was a standing room only crowd and emotions ran high at times as many community members spoke out against the forming of a Gold Mine.
The Mine is being proposed to be built near Pactola Reservior by Mineral Mountain Mining, which is based out of Vancouver, Canada.
After hearing from many speakers the commission decided that they would form a committee that would help direct them on what the next steps should be in deciding the fate of the proposed mine.
Attorney, Bruce Ellison says, 'People who make up our community to be represented on this panel. To come up with reasonable regulations and conditions for this commission to determine whether it would issue a condition use permit and if so under what conditions that would adequately protect all the interests in our community.'
