Corral Drive and Southwest schools honor Patriots Day

Staff and students at Southwest Middle School and Corral Drive Elementary honored first responders and celebrated Patriots Day.

The school-wide event gave students a chance to express their patriotism through music - thanking first responders and service members for their commitment to our country - and parading around the school.
The goal is to give students who weren't around in 2001 a chance to feel the unity that followed the devastating events.

Kyle Yamada, Corral Drive Elementary Principal says, "As bad as the tragedies that happened in 2001 are, it was awesome to see how our country came together. We became united, in my opinion, we became even stronger. So we treat this as a celebration of who we are as Americans and we're just having fun with it."

This was the third-annual Patriots Day event at Southwest and Corral Drive.
