Case of principals placed on administrative leave in process

Black Hawk Elementary School Principal Holly Yamada and Valley View Elementary School Principal Gregg McNabb were required to take a paid leave of absence.

Parents were made aware on Monday that former Rapid City High School Principal Deb Steele would be taking over as interim administrator at Black Hawk and that former Valley View Principal Wayne Rosby is temporarily in place at Valley View.

Now that a district investigation into the conduct of Yamada and McNabb is complete, lawyers and human resource officers have directed their findings to Superintendent Dr. Lori Simon who has the authority to terminate employees, but only with confirmation from the school board. This is according to a spokesperson for the Rapid City Area Schools District.

We do not know whether or not the cases of the two principals are related but we have learned that no further action has been taken.
The School Board will meet on Monday for a study session and we will have updates as more information becomes available.
