RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - It's been two years in the making but Black Hills Corporation employees are finally able to settle into their new building known as Horizon Point.
The new building is about 220,000 square feet and features a centralized atrium where all 750 employees can gather at once for a company wide meeting.
Currently 450 employees are reporting for work there and the rest by the end of the year. This building unifies everybody from five different locations under one roof and they way the office space is designed promotes employee collaboration.
"This will create kind of a dynamic environment for employees to mix and come together," said Chris Anderson, director of real estate and facilities at BH Corp. "What we are trying to do and is trying to pull people out of their workstations, talk, have conversations, exchange ideas..."
Construction is still ongoing but they expect to wrap up in the next few months. Black Hills Corporation started in 1883 supplying electric utility service in Deadwood to the gold mining industry. Now they provide around 1.25 million electric and natural gas customers in eight states.
