Black Hills Business: Ballroom dance studio opens & Rapid City property manger receives national recognition

RAPID CITY S.D. (KEVN) - One new ballroom dance studio is saying they do not just teach you a dance, they teach you to dance.

National Dance Clubs of Rapid City started training its instructors in December and opened its floor up to the public in January of this year. Since opening, the studio has seen more than 100 people cross the dance floor. The director says, in addition to providing classes in a variety of ballroom styles of social partner dance, the goal of the studio is to send you out a better dancer than when you came in.

"We pride ourselves on trying to be the gas station of positivity. When you come in here and you leave, you have a more positive outlook, more energy, we truly try to create a life-enhancing, improving or changing experience every time we step on the floor with our students," said James McCaskill, director of National Dance Clubs of Rapid City.

National Dance Clubs of Rapid City offers private lessons, group classes, practice parties and dance parties.

Out of thousands of people in the property management industry, one woman's company here in Rapid City is being recognized as a 2018 American small business champion!

Jamie Nowlin oversees Black Hills LEasing and Property Management.
Her company finds the right team of leasing agents, handymen, and administrative staff to create a support network for the homeowners and tenants they serve.

The company tripled its business this past year after being mentored by the SCORE program and hopes to go even further.
Nowlin says she works to help her community and says for her, its personal.

"I'm one of those people, like I take care of it like it's my own. I love what I do. I've always loved houses and I've always loved people. I'm on every single property once a month," said Jamie Nowlin, broker, and owner of Black Hills Leasing and Property Management.

"I am honored and humbled to work for her and see what she does and how much she does. I just try to keep up and help her and make sure everything goes along smoothly," said Kerri McLain-Carey, office manager.

Nowlin mentioned that she's proud to be recognized alongside companies like Chili's and Vera Bradley that were also mentored by SCORE. She says she hopes that her company's growth will someday grow as theirs have.
