Biker injured in crash near Rapid City dies

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN TV) - A Maryland woman was killed Wednesday when her motorcycle crashed into a car that turned in front of her on Highway 16 near Reptile Gardens.


According to a release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the 50-year-old rider was eastbound on Highway 16 when the car’s driver, heading in the other direction, attempted to turn onto Neck Yoke Road, in front of the bike.

A 48-year-old Maryland man on another motorcycle also hit the car. He reportedly has life-threatening injuries.

The 22-year-old Pierre woman driving the car had minor injuries. Two children in her car were not injured.

This brings the Sturgis Rally death toll to five; although two of those deaths did not involve motorcyclists.

A biker injured in a crash on Highway 385 Sunday died Wednesday at Rapid City Regional Hospital. The 80-year-old man from Port Arthur, Texas, reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road.

A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Fort Wayne, Ind., was killed Tuesday night in a crash on Interstate 90.
