The kids at South Park Elementary in Belle Fourche got a more than hot dogs, baked beans, applesauce and salad with their lunch Monday.
Once they were done serving the first through fourth graders, the lunchroom staff treated the kids to Christmas carols.
And it didn't take long for the performance to turn into a sing-along.
Food Service Director Justin Olson says, "We want school lunch to be fun for the kids. We want to celebrate holidays just like any of the classrooms. We're trying to develop a culture of school lunch is fun and it's a good time. That's what we're trying to do with this. It's surprising. They know all of the Christmas carols. They were singing their hearts out. I almost needed a microphone just to keep up with them."
Olson says this is the first time they've done this over the lunch hour at South Park.
