Be the Change: Bella's Baby Bottle Campaign

By  |

One organization is raising money so they can continue supporting expectant mothers in the Spearfish community.

Every penny counts for this northern hills non-profit.

And local churches are helping them out by giving a literal meaning to Be the Change.

For the 9th annual Baby Bottle Campaign, the Bella Pregnancy Resource Center in Spearfish distributed more than 1,200 bottles to 27 churches.

People can fill the bottles with coins, cash, or a check, and executive director Roxie Johnson says the money will help fund the services they provide.

Bella Pregnancy Resource Center executive director Roxie Johnson says, "We're an early pregnancy medical facility and so we offer free pregnancy tests and free ultrasound confirmation. And then we are a crisis center for women who may find themselves pregnant and they hadn't planned to be."

Angela Pellett came to Bella a year and a half ago, and through the ultrasound test they provided, she found out she was going to have her now 10-month-old daughter Addelyn Peterson

Pellett also took advantage of the center's "Earn while you Learn" program, which allows her to take educational classes while accumulating "Mommy Money" for items she can buy at the center's store.

Bella client Angela Pellett says, "I know for me coming in, you know, I'm an older mom and I have an older child and I thought I knew it all, but by the time I went through all the classes and everything, it was just really a great resource."

Pellett says the women at Bella are so encouraging, and that this place has been a blessing for her.

Angela Pellett says, "I wish I had this 20 some years ago with my first child. All the people here are just amazing. I've come to know them all really well and it's just a great resource."

The baby bottle campaign will wrap up on February 25th, but they will have another one starting on Mother's Day.

Johnson has been working at Bella for more than 20 years and says they treasure every client they serve.

Roxie Johnson says, "It's very rewarding. There are highs and there are many lows in this organization, but it's very rewarding. Each one is an individual, each one is very unique and very precious and very valuable."
