SPEARFISH, S.D. (KEVN) - Black Hills State University aims to raise $32 million for scholarships and campus improvements through its Capital Campaign.
Since July 2014, the university has raised $23.7 million from 4,699 donations. The money has gone to the creation of 46 scholarship endowments.
“BHSU ranks fifth out of six state institutions in scholarships awarded to our students, so we had to initiate a campaign that focused heavily on scholarships for our students,” said Steve Meeker, vice president for University Advancement. “The campaign also features some capital projects for our campus.”
According to the university, money raised will go to the following areas:
-$24.5 million for scholarships
-$3 million for an addition to the Young Center’s fitness center
-$1.5 million for the E.Y. Berry Library-Learning Center addition
-$2 million for facility upgrades for the athletic department
BHSU hopes to end the campaign by December 2019.
