Update: Suspect in armed robbery not located in home

An early Wednesday morning robbery led the Rapid City Police Department to what they believed was the suspect's house

But after several hours outside the home, responders made entrance into the house, only to find it empty.

The day started with a robbery call to the Boyd's Drug Mart on East Saint Patrick Street.
Through investigation and tips from the community, a suspect was believed to be held up at his home in the 1500 block of Degeest Ave. in Rapid Valley
With the possibility that there was a suspect in the home and its close location to two Rapid City Schools Valley View Elementary and East Middle School those two schools were placed on "Secure Status"

Despite the suspect not being home. We spoke to several people who live in the neighborhood and they told us that there have been issues at the house before and that they've seen officers respond to that address in the past.

Public Information Officer Brendyn Medina also added they would like to send their thanks out to those who live in the Degeest area as several people have offered to bring officers items such as water and snacks and some even offered to leave their homes to go on food runs if needed.
