RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Believe it or not, it's already time for the ice rink at Main Street Square to close.
But before it does, Main Street Square staff is throwing a beach-themed celebration Saturday to close out the season.
The square will be decorated and the first 200 skaters will get a free Hawaiian lei. Usually this is the biggest event of the ice skating season and organizers expect around 600 people to attend.
While some think February is an early closing date, it helps the square staff prepare for spring events.
"We need to transform the square into it's summertime clothes, so we need to rip down the rink which takes three weeks and then that will be in time for our Extravaganza event which is March 31st," said Elizabeth Smith, event director for Main Street Square.
Saturday, Feb. 24 is the last day to skate. The event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
