The 35th annual Lakota Omnicicye Wacipi Pow wow held their Grand Entry at Black Hills State University on Saturday, April 14th.
This week marked American Indian Awareness week and the powwow was just one of many events held on the BHSU campus. The event expected to draw nearly 3,000 people -- and of those who attended the next generation is very important in Lakota culture as they keep the tradition of pow wow's alive.
Jim Yellowhawk says,'Yeah it's really special to see the next generations come especially the families that come and raise their little ones into the culture and brings them into the future.'
some of the dances during the pow wow include Men's traditional and grass as well as women's fancy and jingle.
