In federal court in Rapid City Friday morning, 25-year old Brendan Leiter pleaded guilty to attempted possession of child pornography during the 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
In the factual basis statement, signed by Leiter, law enforcement agencies had set up an operation to target online predators during the rally.
That statement says Leiter placed an ad on Craigslist, looking to engage in sex with a woman.
An undercover agent, posing as a 15-year old girl responded to the ad and Leiter had told the agent that he was working at the rally as a tattoo artist.
Leiter communicated with the agent via text messaging, asking for pictures and said he wanted to have sex.
After he had set up a time and place to meet, law enforcement met up with him.
Both the government and the defense will request Leiter spend three years behind bars.
He faces a maximum of up to ten years.
He was out of custody at Friday's change of plea hearing, but was taken into custody after pleading guilty.
