1 person dead after being shot by Rapid City Police

Rapid City Police says one person is dead after being shot by one of their officers Saturday afternoon. Police says the incident began after noon when they responded to a report of an active shooter in the 300 block of Viking Drive. Police say there were shots fired before and after their arrival on scene. They say the suspect, identified by the South Dakota Attorney General's Office as 48-year old Joseph Paul Hogan of Rapid City, left the residence, threatened an officer and took a shot at the officer. Hogant was then shot and killed by police. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is now handling the investigation.
