Chief Meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen has been battling the country’s toughest place to forecast weather, the Black Hills, since earning a meteorology degree in 2000.

Taylor grew up in Mitchell, SD and fell in love with the Black Hills during annual trips west for camping and fishing in Custer State Park. Taylor came to the Black Hills to study meteorology at South Dakota School of Mines and graduated from Iowa State University.

From there, it was on to the NBC affiliate here in the Black Hills. Since 2012, Taylor has been driving up Skyline Drive to act as our Chief Meteorologist.

When not going cross-eyed from starting at numerical weather models, Taylor enjoys playing poker, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, and tent camping with his old dachshund, young wife, and younger daughter. If you’re going to live in the beautiful Black Hills, you might as well go for broke and soak it up with those you love.
