Box Elder's Mayor says releasing the city's police chief from his duties was in the best interest of the city. Mayor Al Dial released a statement Thursday saying the decision to release John Keegan was partly based on insubordination and misuse of city property.
The city attorney says mainly misuse of a computer. Keegan was released February 17 and said then that he chose to leave because of ``ongoing philosophical dissimilarities'' with the mayor's office. The Pennington County Sheriff's Office will assume command responsibilities for Box Elder's police department until a replacement chief is named.
