Every month we highlight an organization that is reaching out to local youth. In tonight's Committed to Kids, Megan Palera shows us how Lowe's is helping kids build confidence one home improvement project at a time. Their motto is "Let's build something together." And last Saturday, Lowe's was helping to build confidence. With goggles on, apron tied and hammer in hand, these kids are ready to nail together they're own pinball machine.
AJ Peterson says, "I thought they were gonna be crooked but when I was hammering them, they were straight." AJ Peterson is just one of the hundred or so kids that take part in Lowe's "Build and Grow" clinics. Offered the first and third Saturday of the month, young ones have a chance to put together they're own wooden project. Rick Hansen says, "Some of the stuff they've built, it teaches them how to build things with their hands and utilize tools." The clinics give kids a chance to say "I built it," even when help from mom and dad can lead them astray. Lilly Peterson says, "I got confused cuz daddy he put the stuff down here but then it was supposed to go up here." For every project completed, they receive a patch and certificate of merit. And the best part of it all, kids get to use a hammer and make as much noise as they want." Probably nailing. Ya, the nailing."" Hammer." "It hammers in nails and sticks stuff together."We here at Black Hills FOX salute Lowe's home improvement, committed to kids. Megan Palera |
