Grandview wallops BHSU to open the season

After losing the last three games of the 2010 season, Black Hills State head football coach Jay Long had a bad taste in his mouth for the entire off season.

It's been widely publicized that the Yellowjackets are making the jump to division two this year so coach Long may have to tolerate that bad taste a little longer than he's used to as the teams on the schedule improve. Black Hills State kicked off the 2011 season Saturday against Grandview.

Early in the first quarter the Vikings are already up 7-0 when Gregory Charles fakes the handoff and tosses it out to Darin Davis. Davis makes a couple of moves and scores easily putting Grandview up 14-0. Later on in the quarter, the Yellowjackets are inside the ten yard line knocking on the door. But the toss pitch to Drew Nielson goes no where and they have to settle for the field goal. Devin Rounds lines up for the short field goal but he pushes it wide right and the score stays at 14-0. On the next series the Yellowjacket defense stiffens forcing a punt but Bryan DeSanti can't handle it. The Vikings recover and that would lead to this. Charles buys some time and finds Mike Hennick who finds pay dirt. That makes it 21-0 Grandview. The Vikings give the Yellowjackets a rude introduction to division two football as they win today 48-14.
