Thanks for viewing the videos of our Rising Star of the West scholarship contest finalists. Each of the four finalists will be presenting four commentaries on Black Hills FOX News at Nine. Watch the videos, and click in the box to rate each one on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being the highest. Rate them on both what they have to say and how they say it. The finalists will appear starting April 26th, with the winner being named May 25th. The total scholarship money available this year is $7,500 from KEVN Black Hills FOX and First Interstate Bank with the winner taking home a $4,000 scholarship.

Are you interested having your opinions heard across the Black Hills?

KEVN Black Hills FOX TV and First Interstate Bank are going to give you the chance to become our next "Rising Star of the West" and earn your share of $7,500 in scholarships! 1st Place-$4000, 2nd Place-$2000, 3rd Place-$1000, 4th Place-$500
It's easy to enter!
- Create a video segment (30 to 60 seconds) showing you speaking about any topic of interest to you, your fellow students or the reporting of events occurring in your high school community.
- Mail, e-mail or drop off your videotape or DVD to KEVN Black Hills FOX TV (address below). Deadline for submissions is December 31st, 2011.
- If your entry is chosen by the KEVN Black Hills FOX staff, you will be one of the participants to take part in the on-air news contest starting in February, 2012. If chosen, you must be available to tape your on-air segment in January, 2012.
- If you are chosen as one of our finalists, you will compete in April & May, 2012 for the "Rising Star of the West" title and your share of $7,500 in scholarships!
Of course, there are some rules:
- Entrants must be students at high schools or home-schools within the KEVN coverage area.
- Selected participants are required to tape their on-air segments at the KEVN TV studios at a designated time and the segment will be subject to editorial approval by KEVN.
- Participants agree that KEVN shall maintain the right to publicize and broadcast their name, likeness and voice as a participant in this contest.
- Finalists must be available to come to the KEVN studios in March & April, 2012 to prepare for the final on-air competition in April & May.
- Employees of KEVN TV and First Interstate Bank, their immediate families and persons living in their households are not eligible.
- Decisions of the judges are final.
- Scholarship awards will go towards higher education and will be paid directly to the college of your choice as credit towards tuition.
