He's among the famous faces on Mount Rushmore and probably the most famous "Rough Rider" in US history. President Theodore Roosevelt made a visit to Rapid City this evening. Darrel Draper portrays Roosevelt and gave a presentation on the late president's personal and political life.

Inmate pleads guilty to murder |

A South Dakota inmate has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of a prison guard. Forty-seven-year-old Michael Nordman pleaded guilty Thursday in a deal with prosecutors that will allow him to serve a life prison sentence rather than face the maximum sentence of death by lethal injection.

Rapid City man faces life |

A 55-year-old Rapid City man could be facing life behind bars. Michael Dahl is charged with four counts of first degree rape of a minor under the age of 13 and two counts of sexual contact with a minor under the age of 16. Dahl pleaded not guilty Thursday to all six counts.

Five hospitalized in afternoon accident |

Five people were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon, including three juveniles, after a crash on Highway 44 near Johnson Siding. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 42-year old Bridget Lundeen was making a turn onto Highway 44 from Big Bend Road, looked both ways, then looked down at the floor to see something that fell.

New housing near Mines takes another step |

The plan to build new student housing near the South Dakota School of Mines took another step forward Thursday morning. The Rapid City Planning Commission voted for one-point-six million dollars in tax increment financing to get the project going.

Teacher bonus bill headed to SD House |

The vote was along party lines Wednesday evening, as a South Dakota House panel approved Gov. Dennis Daugaard's revised plan to give some teachers big bonuses. The Education Committee voted 11-4, with all Republicans voting "yes" to send the amended bill to the full House.

Jewel Cave trying to enhance visitor experience |

They say it's one of the last unexplored frontiers on Earth, or rather in it; and soon, spelunkers will be seeing a fresh face on the Southern Hills landmark. Jewel Cave National Monument is using off-time this winter to do a little housekeeping, as well as planning for future renovations.
