It's scorched hundreds of acres near Custer and still the Apple Fire is burning and only half contained. Fire officials say, as of Friday evening, about 546 acres had burned. The fire is at 50 percent containment.

Air support did fly over this morning to assess the situation and found that fire was still burning in the interior portions of the fire area.

Air support is expected to stay on standby incase there are flare-ups.

Operations Section Chief Matt Spring says, "There's always a potential as long as there's heat. Wind could come up, one spark could cross with these receptive dry fuels, and we could lose everything we've gained."

The Apple fire was first spotted on Wednesday. Fire officials say the blaze was sparked by lighting.
