SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ Secretary of State Jason Gant is
wrangling with South Dakota's Board of Elections over forms and
legislation
The Argus Leader reports that board
members on Tuesday questioned Gant's attempt to change forms such
as those used for voter registration without the board's final
approval.
Gant says he thinks the board should approve criteria for a form
but he doesn't think it's necessary for him to get line-by-line
approval. Board member Richard Casey says that could open the door
to abuse.
Gant says he's not trying to hide anything, and he plans to
redesign some forms and present them for board approval at the next
meeting.
Gant and the board also sparred over authority for proposed
legislation. Gant says he'll email proposed bills to board members
and get their input.
