Noem pushes new farm bill

Congresswoman Kristi Noem says she's introducing farm bill legislation that promotes the conservation of habitats for pheasants and other game species on land vital to the state's hunting industry.  Noem says the legislation would reduce crop insurance assistance for the first four years for crops that are grown on native sod and certain grasslands that are converted to crop ground.

She says the effort could ultimately help farmers balance the way their land is used and save the federal government money.   Noem says, "By making crop insurance assistance on par with the production capability of this land, rather than insuring it at the same rate as land that's been farmed for years, this legislation could save taxpayers nearly $200 million over the next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office."    The congresswoman says she's committed to getting a farm bill done this year.
