Historic cabin will move to the Journey Museum

It's been sitting in Rapid City's Halley Park since 1926 but now, it's found a new place to call home. The "Pap" Madison Cabin is moving to the Journey Museum grounds to serve as living history.

The executive director of the Journey says since the cabin has been at Halley Park, the city has grown making the piece of history inaccessible. The museum says it's thrilled to have the oldest known structure in Rapid City be part of the facility.

Museum executive director Raymond Summers says, "1928 it was actually the first historical museum for the community. We have photographs of objects that are still in the Minnilusa Historical Association collection today which is housed here in the Journey Museum. It just seemed appropriate that, that first building should come home to our community's museum today."

The move will begin April 10th and should be wrapped up by the 20th.
