Habitat for Humanity has been around here in the Black Hills since 1990 and is planning to complete eight homes this year alone. Habitat executive director Scott Engmann says, "This is house number 79 and 80 over the past 21 years. And I think for those of us who have been involved for a while, we could never have imagined that we could be prepared to help 80 families in our community. So 100 homes is not that far out in the future. And we're confident we can make that goal." Engmann says those homes not only mean a place for people to live, but he says they also mean a $5 million investment in the city over the years. The new homes they started Friday are a partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. -Jack Caudill |
