Committee approves funds to light bike path

The path may be getting a little brighter for walkers, runners and bikers across Rapid City. Rapid City Legal and Finance Committee approved a measure on Wednesday to allocate more than $100,000 to be used for bike path lighting.

The project was first started by Rapid City Police who, with the help of others, have already raised $80,000. As planned, the project would have a special focus on lighting bike paths near the Roosevelt Park area. Police say this past summer they were called to dozens of incidents in that area after dark, and hope improved lighting will improve safety. The city hopes to install the lights in the spring of 2012.
