Former higher ed director runs for Legislature

Tad Perry, the former executive director of South Dakota's higher education system, says he is running for a seat in the state Legislature. Perry retired earlier this year after 15 years as executive director of the South Dakota Board of Regents. The 66-year-old Perry will run as a Republican for a House seat in District 24, which covers Hughes, Sully and Stanley counties. He notes that the two House seats in the district will be open in next year's election because the current House members are prevented from seeking re-election because of term limits. Perry says most of his life has been in public service, so it makes sense to run for the Legislature. He says his specialty as a teacher was state government and the state legislative process. AP
