Paint the Town Purple is a kickoff event for the American Cancer Society's Pennington County Relay for Life, which takes place in Rapid City next week. Organizers say the goal of tonight's event is to get the community to support the teams, helping them raise last-minute funds to meet their team goals for the American Cancer Society.

Molly Schunneman with the ACS says, "I think it is really important to hold an event like this just to get the awareness out there about the event. You know, everybody at some point has been impacted by cancer, maybe not directly, but indirectly, and so just giving them a time to this week celebrate and next week honor them, we're blessed to do so."

The Relay for Life will take place next Friday at the Sioux Park Track from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.All funds raised go to the American Cancer Society.
