Lawsuit filed in fatal crash at nursing home

The family of a 101-year-old woman who died after a car crashed through the wall of her room at a Garretson nursing home is suing the driver. The wrongful death lawsuit asks for the driver to pay the medical and funeral expenses of Mildred Ellefson. The lawsuit alleges that 20-year-old Clarrissa Kutil ``exhibited malice'' in the June 2010 crash. Authorities say Kutil was trying to play a trick on two men sitting on the car's trunk by revving the engine outside the nursing home. She mistakenly put the car in reverse, causing the vehicle to slam through a wall, pinning Ellefson. She died two days later. Prosecutors charged Kutil with careless driving and she paid a $117 fine.
