A vehicle fire that started out small ended up damaging three vehicles and injuring a firefighter Wednsday. The Rapid City Fire Department says crews were originally called out to a small van fire on Saint Anne Street near West Boulevard Wednsday afternoon.

They say as they started to put water on the blaze, the van started rolling down the street toward West Boulevard.

Fire officials say one firefighter was able to get the driver's side door open to try to stop the moving vehicle, with no effect. He was able to escape the van just before the van rolled into an SUV traveling south on the boulevard.

The burning vehicle then jumped the median into a parked truck and finally came to rest.

The firefighter who jumped into the rolling vehicle was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital for non-life threatening burns, and the van was totaled.
