A South Dakota Highway Patrol officer who shot and killed a man in the western tourist town of Custer has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says an investigation by the
state Division of Criminal Investigation concluded that Trooper Todd Albertson was justified in firing his weapon.
Albertson shot and killed 22-year-old Cody Engen of Custer on Sept. 6, after authorities say Engen had gone on a rampage with a pickup truck and handgun, leaving a trail of destruction. No one else was hurt.
