Time to be careful with fires
Monday, 01 August 2011 12:24
The Forest Service is reminding Black Hills residents to be careful with fire this summer, especially with temperatures once again getting close to 100 degrees.  The Forest Service says open campfires and charcoal fires are not allowed in the Black Hills except in designated locations, such as fire pits in campgrounds and recreation areas.

Chris Stover says, "Within the Black Hills Fire Protection District, no open fires are allowed. So that individual charcoal grills; that's considered an open fire, as well as just an open fire ring someplace out in the woods. So if you're going to have charcoal or a camp fire you're going to need either an approved ring on private property or you would need to be in a designated campground."   The Forest Service says the most serious wildfires in the Black Hills have been human caused.  For more information on fire restrictions, go to fs-dot usda/blackhills.
