Throughout the 20th century we have been introduced to many famous geese. From Canadian, to Rich Gossage, to Tony Siragusa, to Anthony Edwards, geese are everywhere. At Black Hills State they're adding one more name to the list in the form of shortstop Aleisha Geisey. Alex Huntington says, "I honestly don't know where it came from. I think it was a high school thing. And whenever she goes up to bat, everyone starts honking at her from the dugout." Yes, you heard her correctly, her teammates literally honk at her when she's up to bat. Aleisha made a round about trip to the softball diamond. She actually came to Black Hills State as a volleyball player. Aleisha says, "I caught all of high school except my senior year. And when I came here I was actually going for volleyball as a walk on and my father kind of pushed me into coach Gurney's office to have a tryout. So she took me up to the field and I tried out for shortstop and catcher and I've just grown into more of a shortstop." Head softball coach Amy Gurney had a hand in the recruiting process. As she looked to add to her flock, she appears to have found a golden goose. Coach says, "Alieshia's always intense, always thinks we can win the game. As an upper classmen and as our shortstop who is already a leader. We have to have that type of attitude on the field. So her in the batter's box, her in the field I always think we have a chance when she's out there." Congratulations to Aleisha Geisey this week's Black Hills Fox Powerade Athlete of the Week.
