South Dakota Congresswoman Kristi Noem tried to re-assure veterans Saturday afternoon that she would support continued funding for the VA and other veterans programs. With budget cutting on the minds of many members of Congress, veterans are becoming more and more concerned about the possibility of cutbacks in programs that many of them depend upon. Noem was asked Saturday afternoon if she feels funding for veterans is one of the programs that must be protected. Rep. Kristi Noem says, "I think that this framework that we have right now for this budget proposal that's been out that I did support certainly made sure that the head of the appropriations approved in advance are equal to what their independent agencies had proposed. So I think it's important that we listen to them on what their needs are. And in the future I think that's what we need to continue to do." Noem told members of the Disabled American Veterans meeting in Rapid City this weekend that protecting the country and maintaining the military are among the essential functions of government.
