Each year the Humane Society of the Black Hills takes in thousands of dogs and cats, and during the winter months those numbers increase. With so many mouths to feed on a daily basis, things can get tight for the organization looking to put all of these animals in good homes.

Since the Humane Society of the Black Hills is a non-profit organization, they operate solely on the generosity the local community provides.

Cheree Pederson says, "We do rely on donations, fundraising and grants to support us. The community organizations such as Healthy Paws have been very, very helpful to help us through the hard times, especially through the winter months when things are kind of tight."

Through the end of the year the Humane Society of the Black Hills is having a special on adoptions; the cost for dogs one year or older is only $25 dollars and cats are $15.
