New Veterans Resource Center opens at University Center

Area veterans enrolled in classes at Rapid City's University Center have a new resource available to help bolster their efforts in pursuing college degrees.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon for the facility's new Veterans Resource Center with a number of dignitary speakers, including Gov. Dennis Daugaard and South Dakota National Guard Adjutant General Timothy Reisch.

The University Center's Veteran's Club says the new resource center is framed as a location where veteran students can find support, and it's garnered nothing but praise from both students and administrators.

UCRC Veteran's Club President Joshua Kosola says, "I've had nothing but positive feedback so far. We don't make our meetings mandatory. There's no fee, there's nothing attached with coming and being a part of our organization. The price you've already paid becoming a veteran is the price you've paid to become a member of our club."

The club says they've had so much support for their organization, they're already hoping to expand the current resource center into a larger unused classroom at the facility.
