Open house helps RCFD celebrate Decade of Dedication
Saturday, 02 March 2013 15:34
The Rapid City Fire Department is celebrating ten years of ambulance operation, and to mark the occasion, the RCFD held a public open house Saturday afternoon. The open house gave the public the opportunity to look over the equipment on display at Fire Station Number One, and talk with firefighters and EMT personnel.

The Rapid City Fire Department took over the ambulance service on March 1st of 2003. Since then, the Fire Department has expanded the service.

Mike Maltaverne says, "The transition was really pretty easy for us. At the time the local private company was running there full-time ambulances. So the fire department continued with that model. And we staffed three full-time ambulances. And today we have expanded. Now we have four."

As part of the open house, free blood pressure and blood sugar tests were conducted, along with pointers on CPR training.
