Jackley says SD could see more synthetic drugs

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning that more synthetic drugs may make their way to the Mount Rushmore State. The attorney general told a group of educators, health care professionals and parents that many of these drugs are being sold illegally over the internet, and making their way here.

The use and sale of synthetic drugs has been somewhat of a hot button issue lately.

Jackley says the drugs can be difficult to detect and regulate because of the numerous combinations of chemicals in the different hallucinogens.

A recent synthetic drug case in North Dakota resulted in the overdose deaths of two teens. Meanwhile, health officials in 16 states, including Wyoming, have seen cases of synthetic marijuana being linked to kidney damage.

Under South Dakota law, it is illegal to possess or sell synthetic drugs.
